A Love Letter - From the Heart of America

My Fellow Americans,

You are my HEROS. I am the Heart of America. Someone just like you, an average every-day person who believes in America and everything for which she has and always will stand. I want to take a moment to express my pride in all of you. You have relit a beacon of hope in my heart. You have inspired me to to take up the torch and show you a vision for America, a hope that I saw burning in your eyes and hearts.

Tonight I listened, as I so rarely do, to the news. As usual, the media tried to convince me that we are a nation divided; an angry nation; a nation that is laughed at by the rest of the world; a nation who is despised by the very people who laugh at us as they demand our hard-earned money; a nation who can’t fix our own problems and should definitely not have our noses in anyone elses; a nation who will once again sit back in apathy and allow politicians and the media to resume running our country. Do not listen to them; do not believe them. I am the Heart of America, let me show you what I see.

I see Americans; Americans of ALL types, sizes, genders, colors, ages, locations, religions, cultures, political affiliation, ethnicity, and educational and economic status. I see our commonality as we celebate our differences. I see a nation of people who have the most forgiving hearts of any nation on earth. I see a nation of people who believe in the American Dream, even as we work every single to day to manifest it in our lives. I see a nation of people who reach out to help more people around the world, than any nation on earth. I see a nation of people who have earned it’s supposed wealth, and shares it more generously than any nation on earth. I see a nation of people who still believe in the American political system, even as they work to make it better. I see a nation of people who would stand and fight and die to keep their country free, not flee and leave the battle for someone else’s children. I see a nation of people who may fight among themselves, but like all families, will stand back to back when anyone ELSE tries to hurt our family. I see a nation of people who are united by our commonality: our love of our children and families, and a desire for our families and neighborhoods to be healthier and more stable. I see a nation of people, more than any other nation, who has the capacity to think globally and act locally by realizing that we are all brothers and sisters and therefore every child is MY child. I see a nation of people who has, and daily proves that all types of people, from all types of places, can come together for a common goal, the love of our families and our freedom, and do amazing things.

Americans are the Heart of our Globe – we are everyman and everywoman. We ARE the global world - no matter what anyone else may try to tell us. WE have already proven that it is possible for all people to unite behind a common goal, now we can enlarge on that reality with a vision for the world, starting with our neighborhood.

What if Mr. Kerry and his wonderful abilites would wake up tomorrow morning, get back on his website and send you this letter:

Mr. Kerry, we are listening, we pray that you are listening, and we believe in US!

Hopefully, The Heart of America

Arlene, I appreciate your great love for your homeland; but if you're going to become a copywriter you need to learn to check your facts. Yes, Americans are generous; but America is not the country that 'shares [its wealth] more generously than any nation on earth'. The booklet 'OECD in Figures 2004', found at the OECD [Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development] website (www.oecd.org) reports that USA Official Development Aid (ODA) to Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in 2002 was .03% of Gross National Income (GNI). It shares bottom spot on the scale with Greece. In contrast, other OECD member nations' aid ranges from .04% (Spain and Japan) to .33% (Norway). The G7 average is .05%; the European Union average is .10%. Having said all that, don't give up your love for your country; just be sure you see it clearly.
